Who we are
Muscle & Authority Magazine publishes interview-based reporting on training methods, coaching and how progress is assessed. Our website address is https://muscleauthoritymagazine.com. Our mailing address is Muscle & Authority Magazine, 400 Madison St, Seattle, WA 98104.
This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website and The Muscle & Authority Newsletter, how we use it and the choices you have.
The Muscle & Authority Newsletter
When you submit the signup form on our newsletter page, we store your first name and email address in our email software as an unconfirmed subscription, together with the date, time and IP address of the signup. We then send a confirmation email. If you request another confirmation, we may resend it, subject to limits intended to prevent misuse.
Until you confirm, your subscription stays unconfirmed and you receive no newsletter emails. When you confirm, we record the date, time and IP address of the confirmation as a record of your consent, and your subscription becomes active. If you never confirm, you will not receive newsletter emails.
We store:
- your first name and email address;
- the date, time and IP address of your signup and, if you confirm, of your confirmation;
- your subscription status (unconfirmed, subscribed, unsubscribed, inactive or bounced) and the newsletter list you joined;
- your email activity tracking choice (allowed, turned off or not chosen) and when and how you made it.
Once confirmed, you receive an email when we publish a new interview-based Authority Spotlight. We use your first name to greet you in those emails. We do not sell your information, and we do not add you to other lists or share your address with the people and businesses we interview.
Email activity
We record email opens and link clicks only for subscribers who allow it. Confirming your subscription does not give that permission: email activity tracking is off unless you turn it on.
You can allow or stop email activity tracking at any time with the “Email activity tracking” setting on your Manage preferences page. Each newsletter email also has an “Email activity tracking” link in its footer that turns tracking off. This choice is separate from your subscription: stopping tracking does not unsubscribe you, and you receive the same newsletter emails whether or not you allow it. Turning tracking off stops measurement from then on; it does not automatically erase opens and clicks that were recorded while you allowed it.
If you allow tracking, our email software records, with your subscriber record, when a newsletter email is opened and which of its links are clicked. Some email apps load images automatically, which can record an open you did not make, so open data is approximate. We use this information mainly as totals, to understand which spotlights readers find useful. If you have not allowed tracking, or have turned it off, the emails we send you contain no open-tracking image and their links go directly to our website, so your opens and clicks are not recorded.
We keep a record of which newsletter emails were sent to you, and of bounces, for every subscriber. We record delivery failures. Addresses that our email service marks as bounced or otherwise suppresses are excluded from future newsletter sends.
Inactive subscriptions
If you allow email activity tracking and do not open or click any of our newsletter emails for 12 months, our email software may mark your subscription inactive, and you will stop receiving newsletter emails. Subscribers who have not allowed tracking, or who have turned it off, are not marked inactive for missing opens or clicks. You can rejoin at any time from our newsletter page.
Service providers
Newsletter subscriptions are managed with MailPoet, an email plugin that runs on our website, and emails are delivered through the MailPoet Sending Service. MailPoet processes your name and email address, and your email activity if you allow tracking, on our behalf so that emails can be sent and, where permitted, measured. Our website is hosted by Rocket.net, which processes technical information such as IP addresses in server logs to deliver and protect the site.
Unsubscribing and managing your subscription
Every newsletter email includes Unsubscribe, Manage preferences and Email activity tracking links. Unsubscribing takes effect immediately and does not require an account or a login. After you unsubscribe, we may ask why you left; answering is optional, and your unsubscribe has already taken effect whether or not you answer. You can subscribe again at any time from our newsletter page.
How long we keep your information
We keep your subscriber record, including your consent records, your tracking choice and any email activity recorded with your permission, while you are subscribed.
If you sign up but never confirm, you receive no newsletter emails. We periodically review signups that are still unconfirmed more than 30 days after the confirmation email was sent, and we delete those we can confirm were first-time signups that were never confirmed. If an address that already has a history with us (for example, one that had confirmed before, unsubscribed or bounced) is signed up again and the new request is not confirmed, we keep that record and its history rather than deleting it, and we do not send it newsletter emails.
If you unsubscribe, we keep your email address marked as unsubscribed, together with the date and, if you chose to give one, your reason, so that we do not email you again by mistake. Inactive and bounced addresses are kept with that status for the same reason.
You can ask us to delete your newsletter information. We review requests and delete or anonymize information as required by applicable law. If a request involves an earlier unsubscribe or another restriction on sending, we review how to honor that instruction and explain any information that must be retained and why. Copies of deleted information may remain for a limited time in our web host’s website backups and server and security logs, and in delivery records kept by our email delivery service, until they expire or are overwritten under those providers’ own schedules.
Cookies
This website uses cookies and similar browser storage where needed for it to work, for example to remember display preferences, and for administrators who log in. Our web host’s content delivery network may also set a short-lived security cookie (such as __cf_bm) to help protect the site from automated traffic.
Our newsletter does not set cookies that link your visits to this website with your subscriber record. Our newsletter confirmation and subscription pages set one short-lived technical cookie (ma_nl_nocache, about five minutes) that contains no identifier and only keeps those personal pages out of our web host’s shared cache.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content such as videos or images from other websites. Embedded content behaves in the same way as if you had visited the other website, and that website may collect data about you, use cookies and track your interaction with the embedded content.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law. To make a request, use our contact page or write to us at the mailing address above.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
